A strong force of QLD boogers will be looking to return the D’bah Pro title to local confines.
Amongst them is the trophy starved Joe Clarke. Four years of tantalisingly close finishes, we’re hanging out to watch the man’s bid more that ever illusive first place. We caught up in prep to the main event. Here’s what he had to say..
Wave wise the tour has been pretty good. Both WA and SA have produced so far! The level of surfing has been by all means high and definitely consistent. There has been a gap in pro level names over the last few draws, but there’s a crop of new comers giving us a run for our money. There’s a few more young lads stepping up and surfing really well in the comps which is epic to see. It’s obviously a hard time in the sport for them to really step it up as the money doesn’t seem to be there as for them as much as what it was for us growing up, but it looks like it’s working out for them. By all means, it looks like we’ll have some strong new talent coming through and turning pro very soon!
I’m off the back of a shoulder injury in WA and pretty severe sickness in SA, so I’m looking forward to being at my best for D’bah. Cramsie is ahead with two flawless results, but there’s still three comps to go and it ain’t over until the fat lady sings. Anything can happen in these comps, the ocean won’t always go your way.
Primed banks and an all star lineup. It’s going to be a helluva weekend. Make sure you get down to Duranbah on the 16th and 17th of this month to watch the countries best battle it out. In the mean time here’s a sample of what you might expect from Joe should the waves arrive.
